There's Terror In The Skies! There's TERROR FROM OUTER SPACE!

We've written enough about Polish animation house Platige Image in these pages that you should, by now, be well familiar with the idea that Poland not only produces animation but produces damn good animation. And here's another example.

The first foray into animation from Poland's Opus Film, Terror From Outer Space is projected to be a fifteen minute short film from director Jacek Rokosz, the story of a robot who falls from space only to be engaged in battle by a military-produced superhero.

On an August night in 1962, a space robot lands in the Bieszczady Mountains. The robot on a mission of a "space forester" inspects local fauna and flora. Soon the extraterrestrial machine finds pollution traces in the forest: radioactive liquid spreading around the surroundings. The robot, in its quest for a source of the dangerous leak, finds a huge, steel pipe bursting with the poisonous substance. Walking along the pipe, the machine reaches a Soviet military base. There it sees 4 pipes going out of the base into the forest. The robot forces its way into the military area in order to destroy the source of contamination. All of a sudden, an alarm sets off and the space visitor is attacked by helicopters and tanks from the base ...

Though the film will not be complete until some time in 2010, a fantastic one minute teaser has been released and can be found below the break.

Sorry but from what I saw there wasnt any "damn good animation" in the slightest. What exactly was so fantastic about that teaser?

Could that logo be any more of a ripoff of the Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot logo?

The answer is NO.

Can't say it looks too much different from most of what Genndy Tartakovsky has been doing for years now. Maybe a different flavor with an actual Eastern Euro setting - but aside from that....
