[Apparently that full trailer was released a bit before actually being approved and so we have now removed it and replaced it with a new - and approved - teaser for the film. Much shorter but just as much fun.]
What's not to like about a film that pits a group of deadly assassins against each other in a to-the-death competition designed for fun and profit? If done well, bloody well nothing - that's what. And upcoming UK release The Tournament does just that. We actually covered this one a good while back when it was just getting under way but as it edges nearer to an actual release a new, official trailer has just arrived.
Every seven years in an unsuspecting town, 'The Tournament' takes place.A battle royale between 30 of the world's deadliest assassins, with the last man standing receiving the $10,000,000 cash prize and the title of Worlds No 1 which itself, carries the legendary million dollar bullet price tag. All fights are monitored 24 hours a day on redirected CCTV camera and broadcast secretly to a ring of high stake billionaire gamblers.
A gritty multistranded action-thriller, 'The Tournament' brings together international killers from every imaginable discipline in a blood bathed contest to the death. We follow the 'favourites' through stories of love, betrayal, revenge and redemption as they finally discover the value of life.
Robert Carlyle stars as a washed-out priest mistakenly drawn in tot he whole affair, Ving Rhames is one of the featured killers, while Scott Adkins and Kelly Hu bring some legit martial arts skills to the table. Trailer's big, stupid fun and you can find it below the break.

It seems like killing off 29 of the top assassins on the planet every 7 years would really start to thin out the talent pool.
Looks like a barrel of laughs. Intrigued.
I really like, what I see here. This could be "Time and Tide Part2", at least visually...
Looks fun. Glad to see Kelly Hu again.
It's like BATTLE ROYALE meets THE RUNNING MAN meets *tries to come up with a Priest-mistaken-for-a-killer film title*
Looks totally entertaining.
I'm there.
about time Britain make a bit of top notch action movies.
We do good arthouse and drama well but its time to bring out the guns!!!
Quality!
Wow, nice!
does anyone remember the film "Series 7" from 2001. Between that and the more recent "The Condemned" this looks and sounds like been there, done that.
That looks like amazingly dumb fun action fun.
Why does Time and Tide gets any love? It was nothing memorable, i can’t see anybody else but Tsui Hark fans praising that one.
Because it's tons of fun? Because it was hugely influential on 21st century action filmmaking well beyond its meager box office haul? Because people are still too embarrassed to admit liking KNOCK OFF? Because the number of watchable Tsui Hark films between it and the overlooked (among Westerners) ALL ABOUT WOMEN is a small one? Because there's a dolly shot through a running clothes dryer? Because they throw the cameraman out an apartment building window on a rope?
Heh, that does actually look as if it could be very, very entertaining. Christ knows why mister Carlyle picks them, though.
I haven't seen Time and Tide in years, though I do remember it as one of the few decent Hark films in the last decade. That's mostly going by reviews, however. Still haven't seen All About Women (updated Peking Opera Blues my ass) or Triangle, but I do have a soft spot for Seven Swords.
Also, I think I need to re-watch Time and Tide...
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I thought it was a blast.
The last good gun-action oriented movie i saw was.....Hard Boiled? Yeah, good movies in that vein truly are a rare thing.
If anyone's played a game called The Club that was released two years ago, it shares a plot that seems quite similar to this film. In fact, there was a character in the game that looked identical to Ving Rhames. Curious.
This also sounds very similar to "Number One with a Bullet" by Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff. Right down to the betting businessmen.
Could be interesting only because this sounds more like a UK production and not a Hollywood one.
Series 7 was ok but I always did prefer the craptastic Mean Guns with Ice Tea. "100 Assassins. 1,000 Weapons. 10,000,000 Dollars. Only One Can Survive."
Saw this one today @ Fantasy Filmfest in Germany. It kicks ass. Good old action almost no cgi but fights, shootouts and a lot of blood. Give it a try.
Watching Time and Tide in cinema was a blast! And it had a very optimistic-summer-feel to it. Hongkong Action at it's best- post 1997.
I'm glad to hear The Tournatent rocks, Hoyt.
