It took quite a long while for the new project by DOG BITE DOG director Cheang Pou-Soi to surface, but as ACCIDENT is finally heading to cinemas and festivals this autumn - we're talking Venice, Toronto and a regular HK release on October 10 - here's a trailer to go with it. And boy does it look good. While in my opinion this has To's fingerprints all over the place and it remains to be seen how much of his own no-holds-barred style Cheang poured into it, there's no doubt that ACCIDENT looks very promising indeed. Industry word at this year's Hong Kong Filmart was that ACCIDENT is one of the best Milkyway productions not personally directed by To in years. I can't wait!

Interesting. I'm liking the 50s/French New Wave look, and the premise as far as I understand it could be very good. [i]Love Battlefield[/i] was great and [i]Dog Bite Dog[/i] was quite brilliant until it went off the rails at the end, so here's hoping To can keep (or has kept) Cheang on track.
Looks interesting, for a moment Lois Koo and Richie Jen look straigh out of the manga "Sanctuary" from Ryoichi Ikegami and Buronson.
I wonder how clear the division of labor for producer/director is here. The HK Film Blog maintained by Ryan on sina, once did a run-down of many Johnny To-produced films where he actually did quite of bit of directing in order to groom new, less experienced directors for Milkyway. I know Soi did some second-unit for To before, while some of the action seems staged in similar style to Mad Detective, et al. There's more patience and deliberate pacing than past Soi work that's for sure (or maybe just the same trailer editor:P )
No doubt Soi Cheang's big comeback after the disappointing [i]Shamo[/i].
pochiW: Well, To admitted himself that he directed all those films credited to Patrick Yau back then - THE ODD ONE DIES et al - but that was allegedly due to Yau not doing his job as To wanted him to.
I wouldn't think he would go quite as far with a director such as Cheang, who already made a name for himself with his work before - but yes, there's a definite Milkyway vibe to the whole thing that makes me wonder.

Looks quie good. just watched another of Johnnie's numerous (ghost directed) films last night, Expect the Unexpected. Hadn't watched it in a while. Have my Election Blu-Rays coming so I can dispence with my standard versions. I wish they would produce a blu-ray of a Hero never Dies

Eye in the Sky another Johnnie To "produced" flick that I thought was pretty cool even if the ending I found a tad weak. From what I've read about Accident it should be good hopefully the ending's more solid.
I think the Milkyway vibe might be a result of the trailer rather than the movie. Anyway, if it's really coming out sept 17 then I will be a happy man; I really want to see this in theaters and I will be in Hong Kong that week!
I wonder if Cheng Siu-Keung did the cinematography? if so, that would contribute to it. the trailer for Written By had a Milkyway-style look to it, but it technically wasnt a Milkyway production afterall. this is, so it's all good! hopefully you'll get to see it in HK theaters!
