The Shaw Brothers Team With Herman Yau For TURNING POINT

by Todd Brown, July 24, 2009 7:39 PM

Oh, it does me good to see that logo at the front of the trailer for Herman Yau's Turning Point. Emerging from a long period of dormancy - unless memory fails the last film they produced was 2002's Drunken Money - the legendary Shaw Brothers have teamed with TVB and director Herman Yau to produce Turning Point, a prequel film to popular TVB television series EU with Michael Tse reprising his role of undercover cop turned gangster Laughing. And it doesn't look half bad, either. Francis Ng, Anthony Wong and Eric Tsang also star. Check the trailer below the break!

Where's the TURNING GATE title coming from? This trailer calls it LAUGHING GOR - TURNING POINT. The only TURNING GATE film I know of is the Korean one.

That said, it looks solid. Is Shaw's getting back into film production full time or is this just TVB taking the ol' logo out for a quick trip around the block?

Needs the Shaw Bros fanfare. I can't stand Nicholas Tse, but the cast and the director are solid as a rock.

SB & TVB plan 3 movies this year to early next year: 1 action (this movie Turning Point), 1 romantic drama (as rumored producer will be Paco Wong), and 1 comedy (a sequel to old SB movie The House of 72 Tenants) . Expect to see many tv actors/actresses involved.

Even though I haven't seen the TV series and Anthony Wong looks like he just got back from a Pet Shop Boys concert (and a recent one at that) I still really want to see this. I won't comment on Francis Ng's hair. He might hear about what I said and come after me. It does look like his and Wong's characters were ment to be played by younger actors. Still, I really want to see this flick, Eric Tsang is great as a bad ass.
