'District 9' looking better and better. New Trailer hits the web.

I hate Neill Blomkamp. Hate him. Why you ask?
Because the talented bastard is only 30 years old, four years younger than me and he's probably gone and made the best sci-fi film this year. Now obviously I'm only basing this on the fantastic looking new trailer that has just been released for his first feature District 9. People have contemplated that the film would be in the mockumentary mode ala Blair Witch and more recently Cloverfield, which is not surprising since the short the feature is based on is exactly that but what I did notice in this trailer is that it seems that only a small part of the film uses that format and the actual plot is told in the regular way. As a result the film is much much larger than we originally thought.
Color me tickled pink.
Yahoo has the goods.

first trailer/teaser didn't excite me as it seemed to everyone else but my nipples are certainly tingling now!

that trailer just got me really excited about a movie I had no idea about.

Oh. My. Tasty.

I just saw the first commercial tonight and really couldn't figure it out, or what it was about. Now after stopping here, I get it. Thanks for the link to the trailer, I just watched it and the movie looks to be very good. Almost war of the worlds type thing.

I can't wait to see it!

Man, this looks really good!

this is such a vast 180 degrees from the short and the first trailer, I'm not sure what to think. Here is hoping it keeps with the grit and intelligence of the initial pitches...

I've nothing against things blowing up, but much prefer a smart film about things blowing up than a flash and bang and it's over.

These are the most intriguing trailers I've seen in the last couple years. I'm also amazed that the director is 30. That is a dream I think most of us had at some point- "I'm gonna make my ambitious movie as soon as humanly possible, and I'm gonna do it my way."

Agreed Ricki-Oh. He has a long career ahead of him if he can direct actors. His CGI work looks amazing. And the guy definitely has an affinity for mecha robots, which is always good.

This trailer blew me away although I agree with Godofjoy. I was already intrigued by the first teaser and the short film. I kept thinking, "Wow, is a major studio really going to release an original, intelligent, politically minded, sci-fi cinema verite flick in thick of Summmer? A special effects laden drama that's not a sequel, based on a book, or graphic novel, or commerical or anything? Wow!

And then I was even more shocked to see a huge viral & commercial marketing campaign with huge bus, subway posters all over the city.

Now that I've seen this trailer, I understand why. Still looks great, but now we know that it has a good chunk of action. Still looks a hella lot better than Terminator 4 or Transformers 2. But still...

Kind of funny about a lot comments from people here and AinitCool. Seems most weren't that interested by the first trailer and are now pysched with this. It took action and explosions to get any real interest. Either way, I'll be there on day one with this.

but, awesome, thanks for clarifying.

A heavy handed apartheid parable (made by a white person no less) masquerading as a genre film? Brings back the sour taste of garbage like Tsosti. Still, I'll see it first day and judge it properly when I do.

I can agree with your outlook Kingo, but that aspect of the movie does appear to be delivered quite well. of course, like you say, we'll see ^^
