I don't know if an Emmirich movie deserves a yeeeessssss, but to each his own. We all should know what to expect at this point- Day After Tomorrow with more cowbell.
Well that's true, they don't. But I was mainly referring to the awesomeness of the trailer. I'm willing to bet money that the film itself will blow.

What a waste of some great character actors (Particularly Ejiofor). R. Emmerich has been running on fumes for a while now, but here it seems like he found the CGI shark, jumped it, gutted it and pulled out all the stale-rotting (almost regurgitated) ideas still lingering in its digestive tract.
Isn't that shot of the plane taking off out of the rubble/debris simultaneously ripped off of both his own ID4 and the Irwin Allen pic Earthquake? More monument destruction? Bigger tidal waves. **YAWN**

I've really been waiting on an epic disaster movie. I'd forgotten all about this one then I watched 2012-doomsday which tried too hard to be like "Left Behind" and was terribly disappointed. This looks Awesome.

John Cusack is talented, but I find that he tends to careen wildly between small-budget independent films that are good, and big-budget hollywood studio films that are bad.
Mr Emmerich certainly knows how to destroy stuff. Maybe the next logical progression for him will be a remake of When Worlds Collide.
Take away the epic music and Ejiofor's brilliant line, and you've got an absolutely terrible looking film. Seems the case of the teaser being better than the actual film.

That looks awful. And although I love John Cusack, his "family man that turns into secret agent in the face of overwhelming odds" arc makes this even more mind-numbing.
This would be a perfect drive-in double feature with that Mega Shark movie.

Man, we're a snobby bunch. That said, I'd take two hours of the first half of that trailer over 15 minutes of the second half - are there really space arks in this movie? WTF?

Swarez, not true, equal scorn was heaped on D-War and Typhoon.
TYPHOON was one of the 10 biggest pieces of shit I've ever sat through in a theater. Special effects had nothing to do with it. CJ should be ashamed for wasting time and money even trying to open that in the US, and nothing to do with 2012 can equal my scorn for TYPHOON.
D-WAR was by no means a good film, but at least it was fun, and it had the advantage of being one strange man's obsessive labor of love - there's no denying the sincerity of it. The destruction of LA in D-WAR, a couple of dubious editing choices aside, is great stuff that singlehandedly justified the price of a ticket. The effects aren't technically perfect but that's not the point - everyone clearly gave it their best shot and the sequence just flows wonderfully. I have a feeling 2012 is much closer to D-WAR than to TYPHOON. If Emmerich ever made a film THAT bad, I missed it.

I ain't snobby, just tired of seeing CGI overpower story, acting, and a minute's worth of disbelief in the theater. If the CGI were removed or replaced with SciFi Saturday night movie graphics would anybody see this movie? Anybody? Bueller?
How much is the budget for marketing? I'm guessing it would be better than many the entire budget of many of the films featured on this site.

ooh, i happen to LOVE Stargate a lot (the movie, not the series; the series was crap).
but that had James Spader and Kurt Russell, and was co-directed with Toby Whatshisname (no one remembers him anymore).
I don't think its mainly a Hollywood thing. Emmerich just seems to be wearing down his shtick with this one, even recycling money shots from his previous films with a slightly different look. There have been horrid disaster films made in other countries. I just fell asleep watching Sinking of Japan last week.

Here's the thing on why I'm sold on this.
I'm big into 2012 even though I've concluded within my own perceptions its going to be a shift in consciousness not apocalyptic. But Roland, if you notice with 98% of his films are all about alternative research aka, CONSPIRACY THEORIES. He's not talentless, he just makes obnoxious films for Hollywood with all the typical commercial archetypes, we snobs all hate, within the frame of stuff that interests him. Most notably, civilizations ending. This looks like a big step up from "The Day After Tomorrow" and I have never seen 10,000 BC for these very specific reasons.
I will see this to see how the 2012 plot is explained.
I enjoyed Independence Day and wasn't completely turned off by The Day After Tomorrow. I will concede that 10000BC was a steaming pile of dung and I'm surprised it got financed. 2012 looks like a lot of very loud flashy fun, though.
Universal Soldier is ok for all the ham-fisted/cheesy/camp things going on in that crap-fest. Stargate always bored me.
So i guess we could say Emmerich talented at making flashy crap. Oh yes, they're still crappy flicks.
It looks interesting, but if its all special effects and no decent story etc...then i doubt i'll like it. I'll still check it out though lol
