Bad news for those who were waiting to see the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio produced, two film, live action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira. And, of course, good news for those who bristled at the thought of an Akira populated by a largely white cast with the action moved from Neo-Tokyo to Neo-Manhattan. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that director Ruairi Robinson has walked away from the project for undisclosed reasons and the producers now consider the films dead. More info as we get it.

THANK GOD!!!!!! My prayers have been answered! Now I just need to wait for OldBoy to be dropped! lol I also agree with you Rhythm-X. I am also looking forward to COWBOY BEBOP to be dropped.
What they were planning might have been interesting but it wouldn't have been Akira. The slimmest chance that it could've been OK wasn't worth the risk of taking a huge dump over one of the most iconic manga and anime of all time. In other words I'm not going to shed any tears over this one biting the dust!
THX GOD
huzzah
Good, now Cowboy Bebop and Oldboy.
Good, I'm getting tired of this banality.
The fact he walked away did not sound good. While I am relieved by this news, I am not so sure someone else won't try and make the film instead. I very much doubt this is the end of the story.
Thank God, now lets just hope the other remakes get canned as well as ChevalierAguila has pointed out above.
I'm shedding a tear ... of happiness and relief ... thank God !
GREAT!! AND I HOPE IT STAYS DEAD!!!
Well, I was going to comment on this but it seems like we all agree. Bury it next to the Evangelion adaptation.
HELL YEAH!!!
stay dead forever and ever.
Yeah, now let's hope that much rumored Evangelion project never sees the light of day. BTW, guys, do you think DBZ bombing had an effect on squelching anime adaptations? I think it does. If it were wildly successful, I think we could have seen some (HORRIBLE) adaptations move forward. You know the "herd mentality" in the movie industry.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!
Someone should forward every single message board posting about this film to Leonardo DiCaprio every day for the rest of his life as punishment for even considering getting mixed up in this.
