Hong Kong singer and actor Aaron Kwok has charted an interesting course for himself. With a string of hugely popular albums to his name and a fistful of acting awards he is one of the most respected artists in both of his chosen fields and - if he so desired - he could easily be another Andy Lau, a simply huge celebrity. But Kwok doesn't seem to have much interest in the celebrity lifestyle and rather than maximizing his exposure to maximize profits he seems much more inclined to work at his own pace and choose projects based on legitimate interest rather than business concerns. Whish is probably a good part of why he seldom appears in bad films.
And it looks like he's got another solid one coming. Over the past few days i've received a handful of emails from friends and connections in Hong Kong, all of them telling me the same thing: keep an eye out for Kwok-starring police thriller Murderer. In it Kwok stars as a police detective suffering from memory lapses who - in the course of investigating a murder - realizes that he himself is the prime suspect. It's territory fairly similar to what Kiyoshi Kurosawa covered with Retribution but this looks to have its own personality entirely.
The first trailer is now out and you can find it below the break.

I'll admit I used to dislike Kwok, figuring him for another pretty boy 'singer/actor' type.It is only in recent years that his involvement in some really good, non-big budget niche films have warmed my heart to him.
Silly name, but that's about all I can throw at it right at the moment. Colour me very interested; The Detective was the best thing I've seen either Pang Brother put their name to and that was largely down to Aaron Kwok, and After This, Our Exile was pretty damned good too. Kudos to his abrupt change of direction indeed.
Is it just me or is he trying to look like Tony Leung with that moustache?
Chavalier: I think it's just you! haha.
This looks good. I think HK rarely puts out good trailers. Usually they either give too much away or it's sloppy and uninteresting. At the very least, this trailer convinces me to check out the movie
yea i'm stoked for this one too. seeing aaron kwok's come of age is just like getting sideswiped by double-decker. his 90s films were idol vehicles, one of them even a sequel of andy lau's A Moment to Remember. apparently at age 42 something clicked inside him and suddenly he gets this acting gig! top that on the star aura/pretty he's got all along, what does the future hold for method acting ooglies LOL...
I neither hated or cared about him in the past though I always respected his action performances. It was until I watched Johnnie To's Throw Down that I came to respect and like him as an actor. Speaking of Aaron Kwok in a Johnnie To, I watched The Bare-Footed Kid few days ago and thought he did a very good performance in that, shifting between being cute, amusing, confused, serious and righteous.
Anyways, this looks good!
He lost weight?
Man, he was Silverfox! One of the coolest villians ever in HK cinema.
That looks watchable. :)
