Daybreakers trailer hits

by Swarez, June 26, 2009 3:04 PM

Brothers Michael and Peter Spierig made an impressive debut with their home made zombie effort Undead a few years ago and since then they have been working hard on their first studio picture, the vampire action film Daybreakers. The story revolves around a world where vampires are the norm and humans are hunted for blood. Now comes a time where the blood supply is drying up as humans have become more harder to find. Blood substitute has been made but has some rather unfortunate effects on the vampires themselves so the need for the real thing is high on the priority list. Hilarity ensues.
A trailer has just hit the web over at Yahoo.com and I have to say that it looks pretty impressive, even though I'm not fond of the vampire genre in general. Take a gander and tell us what you think.

Tentatively intrigued. I had heard of the flick before, but thought Undead did have some good ideas going for it (even if the third act got a bit off kilter for my tastes). Looks to be really intresting, and the idea of a 'vampire society' has the virtue of not really being tried on screen before....

Put me down as an interested party.

jesus bloody christ, all of my favorite actors, favorite themes and even on top of that it has some really tasty action scenes.... definitely!

The shot with Ole Ethan, on the subway platform looking all kinds of film noir cool and then flashing inhuman eyes, sold me. Though it is possible that after watching Transformers 2 I have now become conditioned to OBEY and WATCH anything that has visual eye candy regardless of the now meaninless and SOOOO last century concepts like plot, character motivation and linear story structure.

Well there was nothing in that trailer to make me not want to see it come January. In fact I think I might be in a little bit of shock... it looks strikingly original (or at least a nice blend of different genre tropes).

Not a fan of horror films that employ 'modern rock' bands in their soundtrack (especially ones that cover 80s songs with an 'edge'), hopefully that was just a poor choice on the trailer-maker's part. Otherwise, count me in.

The trailer caught me completely by surprise. It was the first time I'd heard about this movie at all, and when it comes to genre movies that almost never happens.

Well they have been working on this title for quite some time, mostly to help keep costs down on the Special Effects. I almost thought this was never going to see the umm light of day (yuk yuk) but it looks like their time was well spent on waiting then rushing this with Twilight CGI.

As for the Music Choice I don't see the big deal with using "Modern Rock" for a TRAILER, the whole concept of a trailer now-a-days is to entice your average consumer to want to watch your film, even if the song in question is a cover of a 80s song by a artist that isn't a HUGE name.

Anywho this looks great and I can't wait for this!

As for the soundtrack music in the trailer...I'm just glad it isn't Rob Zombie's "More Human Than Human" or something from the Korn catalog.

*shudders in horror*

I'd never even heard of this film, but the trailer floored me. Superb cast, interesting story. I need to add this to the list of films to keep an eye on.

Nice, looks interesting...

I liked the trailer for UNDEAD but the actual film didn't do much for me. This looks a lot better.
The UNDEAD trailer had all the best bits in it like the windshield of blood and the disembodied legs.
Even with all the things going on in this one it feels like it's just scratched the surface of what's in it.

hurrah for Sam Niell! I'm looking forward to it, the design looks slick, I like the "noir" look of the vamps, and a cute beastie. and Sam Niell.
