Bigger. Angrier. Piggier. Full Theatrical Trailer For CHAW!

by Todd Brown, June 15, 2009 9:14 PM

One day in a small and peaceful village Sameri, boasting no criminal cases for 10 years, a terrible accident happens. Ecologists studying wild animals on a nearby mountain, discover a collection of dismembered body parts. Policeman KIM Kang-su just transferred to Sameri from Seoul takes the case. The victim turns out a grand-daughter of Chun il-man, who was once a legendary hunter. Chun is convinced that it wasn't a human that murdered his granddaughter but a man-eating boar, Chaw. Terrified, the people of Sameri invite one of the most famous hunters Baek to catch the Chaw. Baek leaps at the chance hoping it will prove himself to be the best ever hunter. Baek, Chun, detective Sim in charge of ,ecologist Soo-ryun and KIM Kang-soo (whose mother is also missing) head into the deep dark mountains to confront the beast.

You want a big pig? We've got a big pig. We ran the first teaser for Korean giant-pig movie Chaw a little while back, much in love with the concept of a giant rampaging boar but a little less in love with the in-progress CGI that featured prominently in that tease. But now the full theatrical trailer has arrived and things are looking much better. MUCH better. Sure, it's a pure b-film guilty pleasure but it looks like a whole lot of fun. Both trailers are below the break.

The CGI still looks a bit iffy to me but I like that they seem to be playing this one straight. Pigs are pretty damn scary in reality and I'm sick of pigsploitation going for the trashy laughs instead of actual scares.

This is starting to look like a straight-up Jaws adaptation, including the "we've caught the shark/pig that ate the kid"/"No, it's not big enough - let's cut him open and find out" scene.

Not saying that's a bad thing, if handled right - and this looks a lot better than the original teaser.

Nay too sure about this one, lost interest in the opening 3 seconds. The trailer seems odd, and it doesn't help that they just revealed the end in a trailer.

"I'm sick of pigsploitation going for the trashy laughs instead of actual scares."

The fact that this sentence exists makes me a happy man.
