Stop reading and watch. Finally some footage from John Hillcoat's long anticipated adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's THE ROAD.

Terrible trailer with goddamn 'what caused it' exposition, action 3d titles and drum beats, and a fucking willhelm scream.
Good thing that the Esquire article already prepared me for a misleading trailer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is still going to be a faithful adaptation of the book.
Kids don't get enough misery in their cinematic diet. Not counting TRANSFORMERS.
Wow, a very misleading trailer but then I would probably amp up the action in it to get some butts in the seats. I noticed that the beginning is exactly like the first Terminator Salvation trailer sound vise and basically the only thing it needed was a robotic skull in the frame.
It's also strange that the make it look like Theron's character is more in the film than she actually is.
Horrible trailer on all counts, yes.
Hmmmm... I remember a time when I really enjoyed watching trailers. I think it was seeing too many like this that put me off...
But still, there are some beautiful shots in here, and that encounter scene with the man who’s come away from the rest of his pack shows that he hasn’t lost any of that Hillcoat grit that made The Proposition so compelling to look at.
Think I’ll go and actually read that Esquire piece now...
less "The Road" I read and more like "Road Warrior" (nyuk, nyuk) will be curious to see how the actual film unfolds. Maybe Charlize shows up at the end and everyone lives happily ever after.
and why there is an explanation at the beginning?
Ok. Charlize Theron's role is beefed up and is the WEAKEST aspect of the film. That footage at the beginning is not in film (as of now). As we know, The Weinsteins are fat fucking pigs. This is a bad trailer. Keep the faith alive.....
But there's always the possibility the Harvey Scissorhands will take the film in September and retool it three weeks before its release. The Reader anyone?
Well I just hope that all action sequences from the movie are in this trailer (so, it's about half a minute or so), and the rest of the movie is more like a book.
I really hope so.
Kurt:
I think I reccommended The Descent by Jeff Long to them ( they weren't a friend I just felt compelled to respond to their poor review)
Yes, The Road has classic written all over it, I had to stop reading it on the train to work because I thought I was going to embarress myself by blubbering!
You bring to the story what you value in your life, and probably because I have a son due to be born in 10 weeks my family values and hypersensitivity to my soon to be "family unit" are to the fore.
But the book seems to have hit some sweetspot in the peoples psyche with it's appeal, even for such an almost completely devestating read, you read on, hoping that some chink of hope appears.......
I hope G W Bush reads this and has many a sleepness night, but I don't think he could understand the big words. Thank God Obama is president, now, there's hope you!
Yea, I've got two kids, and the oldest is a boy....But that has never stopped me from reading and watching these types of stories...it may add resonance though....
Looks very promising despite the lame explosions. :)
Not familiar with the book at all. Perhaps this will be the one of the rare post apocalyptic flicks Hollywood finally gets right.
