Killer Waves Approaching! Teaser for Korean Disaster film HAEUNDAE

by Al Young, May 12, 2009 11:24 AM

When it comes to major blockbuster films poised to make a giant splash this summer in Korea, it doesn't get any bigger than the disaster film Haeundae and I do mean it literally. With a killer wave that can easily engulf a suspension bridge, you better believe that Ha Ji Won will run her ass off for dear life. Just look at the last money shot of the teaser trailer. Its enough for me to piss my pants in absolute terror! Mother nature can be a real bitch sometimes, eh.

Haeundae, a popular vacation spot on the East Sea coast of the Korean penninsula, draws one million visitors to its beaches every year. Man-sik, a native of Haeundae lost his co-worker in a tsunami four years ago, but now he leads a simple life running a small sushi shop and is preparing to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Yeon-hee. Meanwhile, a tsunami researcher KIM Hwi discovers the East Sea is showing signs of activity similar to the Indian Ocean at the time of the 2004 tsunami. Despite his warnings, the Disaster Prevention Agency affirms that Korea is in no harm. Eventually, a deadly wave is coming with only ten minutes to spare. While the vacationers enjoying a peaceful hot summer day, a mega-tsunami is headed straight for Haeundae.

The release date is set sometime in July. Check out the teaser trailer after the break.

... and glad to see Korean Cinema (in general) making big waves again ...

Oh, come on. Before a giant wave the water level drops something massive where it's about to hit.
Looks pretty good, but highly illogical.

yeah this looks really good im looking forward to seeing it. You cannot beat the classic style "no brainer" movies.

CGI looks a bit silly innit mate.

yeah, the overall production value is pretty damn impressive but the CG wave effects aren't very convincing. And is that the woman from Sex is Zero?

how many times have we seen a giant wave? And why is the giant wave the go to thing for movie teasers? i'm 31 years old and i feel as though i've seen the giant wave (conservatively) 42 times. Also, why does the giant wave make me so damn mad?
