First look at Chow Yun-fat as CONFUCIUS

by Al Young, May 15, 2009 12:46 PM

Three stills for the upcoming biopic Confucius starring Chow Yun-Fat as the great ancient philosopher has been released at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival. After the walking train wreck that is Dragonball: Evolution, Chow is in dire need of a substantial role to raise his low approval ratings but will this be it?

The film is due out in October.

He just need to stop using his wife as his manager.

for these historical personae i prefer zhao dan's li shizen, lin zexu performances: sink into character without starry glow, just plain living the guy. alas, he's dead.

Agreed with the bad feeling. Pity, I miss him so much.

yeah i think his wife is killing his career... he has been taking bad roles one after another... i mean how could he passed Red Cliff..

At this point, I just want Chow to do a low budget, older-skewing romantic comedy where he's putting the moves on an age-appropriate costar. In Cantonese.

Confucius could be the ruturn of Chow Yun Fat.

Sorry, won't win any awards for costume design.

We all wish Chow will somehow make a comeback, don't know if this movie is it but he deserved better than Dragonball!

Costume design looks realistic to me, that's how I imagine people 2 thousand years ago. I just hope it's not loaded with wire-fu.
Since it's a mainland China production, I think, unfortunatelly, cantonese won't happen.

I agree with Cuttermaran... the costumes look realistic - nothing too ornate or lavish. I think it fits the story though you could argue it is a bit plain. Then again, theres only 3 stills so we'll have to wait and see some more stuff before judging.

Its getting to the point where if I see he's in a movie I expect it to be meh. C'mon, Chow, don't be like Jackie Chan. To start your comeback, do something easy, something with guns. Its not like China/Hong Kong/Taiwan are lacking in action films these days. Call up Johnnie To and beg him for a role.

I still don't understand why he passed on Red Cliff. No matter what you think of it, most people could sense that sucker was going to be a smash hit the moment they read the synopsis and the talent involved.
