THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE

by Kurt Halfyard, April 16, 2009 10:38 AM

So do you dig on the stranger, smaller, less studio driven Steven Soderbergh efforts like Schizopolis, Full Frontal or Bubble? Have a look at the stylish trailer for The Girlfriend Experience a small character study which brings porn star Sasha Grey into the more 'legit' film world. Someone has to take up the mantle after the early passing of Ms. Marilyn 'Rabid' Chambers (RIP).

Five days in the life of an ultra high-end Manhattan call girl who thinks she has her life totally under control. She feels her future is secure because she runs her own business her own way, makes $2000 an hour, and has a devoted boyfriend who accepts her lifestyle. But when you're in the business of meeting people, you never know who you're going to meet

One thing that the films (and marketing media) of Soderbergh's entire filmography have going for them is fabulous music choices. Here, sweet, sweet percussion introduces our cool call girl, Christine, as she has her price named via stylish title cards.

The Girlfriend Experience is getting a limited release May 22. The Trailer is after the Jump.

The Music in this trailer is a LOT like Cory McAbee's RENO (http://www.sundance.org/globalshorts/index.asp?film=film5)

No zombies, no ninjas, no kung fu, no aliens or aliens fighting zombies, so I'm going to pass...

You should broaden your horizons a bit, you'll never know what you're missing out on.

Cool music, blah trailer. Doesn't give me the sense that the film intends to cash in on anything other than the sensationalism the plot promises.

so is there going to be real sex in this ala Short Bus?

Can you pass on this if you already hire escorts and hit the therapist's couch on regular basis?
;)
"Tell me about my life mr. Soderbergh, no really."

It's "interesting" we don't see Ms. Grey deliver any dialog. What I've seen of her performance in SMASH CUT doesn't bode too well either, even if she IS a fan of serious cinema in her personal life

Trailer 2 with dialogue is here: http://www.rowthree.com/2009/04/15/the-girlfriend-experience-trailered-for-us-non-americans/

I still think it is a solid trailer and I dig on Soderbergs non-commercial projects.

The music is from Shakerleg from NYC. Yeah, he's underground a lot... all those cymbals he's hitting with the backs of his hands... can't tell here... check youtube...
