One Word For The New THIRST Trailer: Brilliant.

by Todd Brown, April 10, 2009 1:47 AM

Last week we posted up a 'leaked' version of a new trailer for Park Chan-Wook's upcoming vampire picture Thirst, a trailer that I honestly wasn't crazy about and that didn't nearly live up to the high standards of the man who brought Oldboy to the screen. That trailer didn't stay online long, however, thanks to the Korean producers rushing about having people pull it down. Turns out that was an unfinished version, most likely using some raw footage, and was never meant for public consumption. The new trailer that arrived on the film's official website today? That is the finished version. And, quite simply, hot damn. Hot f'n damn. This is what i want going in to a Park Chan Wook film - gloss with an edge, disturbing imagery, characters pushed as far as they can possibly bear and all of it pulled off with a slick sense of style. The story of a lusting priest turned vampire is one that promised to shake people up a bit and now the film has a trailer that promises it may well do just that.

Check the new trailer and the original teaser out below the break. And can someone tell me when Shin Ha-Kyun had some of Steve Buscemi's DNA spliced into his system? The resemblance is uncanny in spots ...

Brilliant is a pretty good description I have to say. This looks like a killer.

I need to change my underwear. PLEASE, PLEASE, GET THIS FOR JUNE SUBWAY CINEMA!!!!

That trailer made me giggle like a Japanese schoolgirl with anticipation.

Guess I'm one of the few who found the first whole minute to be a right old slog. I'm only interested because of the talent involved, the premise rung louder in my mind than it has on screen.

Park Chan-Wook is cool.

Shin Ha-Kyun looks NOTHING like Steve Buscemi, Todd. Other than the haircut here, I see no resemblance. And talk about two completely different actors and acting styles...but I'm sure that's not where you were going. The trailer is quite awesome, though and I can't wait to see this. It looks to be a return to form for Park Chan-Wook after the disappointing I'm a Cyborg but that's Ok.

Once again, as I said in an earlier "Thirst" thread, this will hands down be the film of the year for me (I hope!). I thought the "Unfinished" trailer was amazing, but this was even better. Just glorious images, and the music....WOW!!

With this and "Mother" coming out this year, it is going to be a stellar year in Korean cinema!! (Hey where is a new Kim Ki-Duk film?! He has normally announced a new one by now!)

Oh, and I too see the Steve Buscemi resemblance.

thank god this new trailer hit. i was pretty bummed after that first nontrailer, and now my PCW devotion is restored!

Thirst and mother back2back would be a pretty damn good double feature right about now...

holy hell that was good.

i honestly don't see what the fuss is about. it looks just like any vampire film.

now compare this to the trailer of Let The Right One In. THAT was something special.

I honestly see a homage to mary poppins, that and shin ha-kyun's best color is olive green (hot dang!)
