We first posted the trailer for Ole Bornedal's upcoming thriller Deliver Us From Evil back when it started making the rounds on Danish film sites. Bornedal, of course, has been one of the best things going in Denmark for a good long while and won himself a whole lot of love last year with the one-two punch of The Substitute and Just Another Love Story, a potent combo that made his upcoming thriller one of the more anticipated titles of 2009. And that anticipation looked as though it would be rewarded large based on what was in the trailer. It was gripping, brilliantly shot stuff, the only down side being that it was also very dialogue heavy and had no subtitles.
Well, down side no more! International sales outfit Bavaria Film have just released a subtitled version of that trailer and we've got it below the break! Tasty.
In search of a new lifestyle, Johannes and his wife Pernille leave the city and move with their two children to Johannes´ childhood town in the country. When Johannes´ drunken brother Lars accidently runs over Anna, a local, and plants false evidence pointing at the emigrant Alain, Johannes stands up to defend Alain. But it comes with a price. The town soon reveals its ugly face, as revenge, hatred and xenophobia become the order of the day, turning the life of Johannes and his family into a living nightmare.

Looks like some pretty gripping stuff. I like the cool color palette, too. BTW, Just Another Love Story will be out on R1 DVD May 5th.
I agree, the palette is a little off-kilter which makes it all the more interesting. Lars is a horrific creation; the line when his partner just says "Can't you just hit me now?" is chilling.
Ooh, looks very nice indeed.
It's been out in a while over here in Denmark. At first I thought it was outstanding, but after I thought it over, I realized there was a few pretty annoying plot holes.
Lasse Rimmer (Johannes) and Jens Andersen (Lars) were both very good. A very cool 'Evil Dead' reference brought a smile to my face.
I can't wait to see what Bornedal will come up with next.
Looking forward to this even more after seeing the newer trailer. hopefully this makes its way stateside on the big screen. the muted color scheme is interesting - similar to what Bornedal did with _Vikaren/the substitute_.
