SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE Cleans Up At The Globes

by Todd Brown, January 12, 2009 8:41 PM

Quick question: where were all the goofy choices at last nights Golden Globes? Nothing out of left field at last night's awards, really, where I found myself agreeing with pretty much all of the choices. The big winners? Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire with four, Kate Winslet taking both Best Actress and Best Supporting, Mickey Rourke taking Best Actor, Heath Ledger taking a posthumous nod for Best Supporting Actor, Ari Folman's Waltz With Bashir taking Best Foreign Language and Wall*E as Best Animated.

why ? slumdog millonaire IS goofy. I would put it into the "Amelie" / "it's so cute, you are FORCED to love it" category of movies that can only discussed properly after the emotional (he who does not get it is no human) tidal wave swept over the giddy fans and critics. the movie is made of cheats, not love and understanding. it's brutally conservative and manipulative. it's on only one list:
the no-no list (like Amelie)

none of the awards has any balls to nominate THE best film of 2008 - THE DARK KNIGHT. i bet it will be the same with the Oscars.

IT'S A COMICBOOK/SUPERHERO FILM. therefore, no go.

same with the top festivals that shy away (balls shrink away) from genre films.

that's just an insult to amelie. i was disappointed it won, but not surprised. i enjoyed slumdog, but to say that it is over-rated is an understatement.

"THE best film of 2008 - THE DARK KNIGHT"

The dark knight is a sh*t with a strawberry on top.
ledger being the strawberry.
