One thing I have learned in my days of obsessively revisiting film websites looking for new treats: A site redesign = a new trailer. Always. And the official website for Kankuro Kudo's Shonen Meriksack has just been redesigned. Kudo, of course, is much loved in these parts as the screenwriter of Ping Pong and Zebraman, the director of Yaji and Kita: The Midnight Pilgrims. In Japan he's loved for even more, since over there people get to see his award winning plays, see his band perform and check out his comedy act on television and in bit parts of films that rarely export. The guy keeps busy and he's good at what he does.
What he's doing this time is writing and directing a new comedy about a (very) young executive - played by the normally uber serious Aoi Miyazaki - trying to wrangle a band of rapidly aging punk rockers. Yes, we're excited about this one. And, yes, the new trailer has joined the original teaser and character reels below the break.

hahaha love the shot of all the little kids flicking the bird!
Aoi Miyazaki is a total cutey and the film looks fun, but a little too cute overall for my taste. It's a decent trailer tho. But if Aoi is screaming, crying, pouting throughout the entire thing I don't think I can stomach it.
Japanese comedy is hit or miss with me. Either completely deadpan which I generally find hysterical, or over the top which I find grating.
I'll wait for a review to come in on this one.
Dear god I can't wait for this movie.
saw this a few months back. Had really high expectations for it and unfortunately didn't think it was too good. Very similar to 'Still Crazy', but despite all it has going for it (cast/crew), it falls flat on too many occassions in the film.
