We've been following the progress of Levent Semerci’s Nefes in these pages for well over a year now for one very simple reason: it looks simply fantastic. A war drama in the classic style of Platoon or others that balance out drama with action, Semerci's film tracks the life of a young man from enlistment through to active military service in an active, hostile region - protecting an alpine relay station against extremist and terrorist forces. Beautifully shot with a good dose of realism ensured by Semerci hiring largely unknown actors, having them trained by retired military officers, and basing the story on the memoirs of actual military servicemen this just looks like potent, raw stuff.
We've posted two trailers for the film in the past and a third has just arrived. Very, very impressive.

Fantastic. This would have been impressive for a Hollywood production, but the fact that it's Turkish makes it doubly so. Sadly, Bollywood and Malaysia are still stuck in the 70s when it comes to making international films.
Nice. Yes, I'd see this in a heartbeat.
I assume they wouldn't have a movie if they were in proper snow camouflage...
Man, when the current Afghan campaign started Canada sent its soldiers without proper desert cammies. Our soldiers painted their regular gear to avoid getting their asses shot off. I have no problem imagining that the same thing could happen with Turks sending men into the snow ...
I'm waiting for this movie like a year. Nefes, ( Breath ) will be in cinemas in 20.02.2009. Why didn't they use snow camouflage ? The movie is based on a true story that has happened in 1991 . I think, the army was not using white winter camouflage at that time. Because the director has spoken with the real soliders in the story and prepared all the gear according to their memories.
At the end of the third trailer the officer says " Son, if you sleep you die. If you die everyone dies "
