Whenever the topic of who the next young action star will be to emerge in Hong Kong and China the conversation inevitably begins with the hugely talented Wu Jing but between the fact that at 34 he's already hitting his peak years and the simple reality that you need someone for him to fight against it doesn't take long before a few more names get thrown on the table. And amongst those in the know one of those names is generally Philip Ng. Ng is considered to be one of the great undiscovereds right now, though that will be changing soon with a number of Hong Kong and international productions on his slate and our thanks go to Mike Leeder for pointing the way to Somebody To Love a new independent short with Ng in the lead.
Directed by Seamus Walsh this is a truly international, independent bit of work. Ng stars as Jeff, a young man in love. And, glory be, the girl loves him back. So life is swell. Or it woudl be, at least, if a local gangster wasn't also in love with Jeff's sweetheart and willing to do away with Jeff by any means necessary to get at her. Well shot, well performed, good balance of action and drama delivered by a number of familiar faces ... there's really nothing here not to like. Check out the trailer below the break.

Isn't Wu Jing 34? The trailer looks good but, couldn't they have picked a better looking actress? Considering all the pretty girls you could easy find in the HK industry, she has a bit of a Karen Mok look.
wu jing is 34, not 38. He was born april 1974, his birthday is shown on his
web site wu-jing.org, imdb.com and wikipedia.org. The one really thing u got right todd is that philip is an undiscovered talent of hong kong that is the next generation of hk action stars. Cannot wait to see this film and hands of the dragon, philip is a great martial talent!
Hmm. Read a profile on him that got the age wrong, then. I'll correct that now!
