Oshii Mamoru wants to make a feature length Assault Girl!

Heh. This could be fun. Though our own Stefan was mixed about the complete omnibus Kill, featuring four climactic battles by four directors, he was most positive about Oshii Mamoru's segment Assault Girl 2. This is more than fine because it turns out that Oshii and one of his stars Kikuchi Rinko [Babel and The Brothers Bloom] would like to take the concept of the Assault Girl short films [the first one appeared in The Women of Fast Food last year] and make a feature length film.

Both Oshii Mamoru and star Kikuchi Rinko want to do it but the details aren't set. Oshii has already shot some location footage and should know by next May or June what the production's schedule will be.

Not very often does the process of turning a short film into a feature length work very well, especially given that one of these shorts was just a pitch battle. But, where there is intent there is promise. And where there is Japanese woman clad in black leather wielding a sword I will be also!
