Jean Dujardin Returns As French Spy OSS 117 In RIO NE REPOND PLUS!

by Todd Brown, December 23, 2008 8:59 AM

Well, how's this for a bit of timing? Just hours after listing the first of the OSS 117 revival films in my best of 2008 - it was actually produced in 2006 but did not release in the US until 2008 - when what arrives in my mailbox but the first teaser for the follow up, Rio Ne Repond Plus. I caught a look at and extended sales reel for this film at the American Film Market and came away in pain from laughing so hard. Once again the production values are so incredibly spot on that you could swear that you were watching a lost film from the late 1960s and once again Jean Dujardin charms and amuses as the titular spy. And here's the thing that makes these films work so incredibly well. They're not parodies or spoofs, but rather recreations of an era long past with Dujardin playing the role as a man who is actually quite good at the whole spy thing but so blissfully unaware of changing social, ethnic and gender roles that he is constantly making a fool of himself, a fact of which he remains blissfully unaware.

The first teaser is very much a tease but it's more than enough to get a feel for the character. Check it out below the break.

Great! This trailer is quite dark (this one looks better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkhHGNW18EE)

- Oh! What a haircut! I don't really see the point of looking like a woman!
- What do these freaks want?
- They want to change the world.

- Change the world? That's a funny idea! The world is fine, why change him?
- In a nutshell, they want to make love, not war.
- Oh but you can do both. I've always did both and I've never received any complaint!

- Bloody Hubert! You're so friendly!
- You too!
