Oh, you're going to be hearing an awful lot more about this film when awards season rolls around but for those of you sick of hearing about Aronofsky's The Wrestler and how good Mickey Rourke is in it from people lucky enough to catch the film on the festival circuit, here's your first chance to see a bit for yourself. Fox Searchlight has just rolled out the film's first trailer and it's a dandy, neatly capturing all of the things that make this film something special, namely Mickey Rourke, Mickey Rourke, maybe a bit of Aronofsky, and Mickey Rourke. I kid. Sort of.
But i'm not kidding when I say that we've got the trailer here on Twitch and you'll find it in the Twitch Player below the break.

Got to see THE WRESTLER the other night with Darren and Marissa in attendance. Absolutely breathtaking. An emotional ride, to say the least! This movie will stick with you for days.
I love Aronofsky but have never cared for Mickey Rourke, but that trailer promises a breathtaking picture. As a long-time wrestling fan I've been to show where the top guys from 15 years ago who were once filling arenas are now struggling to fill local gyms, and it's sad to see men who just can't let go of thrill of the game. This looks like it might be based loosely on the life of former WWF Superstar Jake (The Snake) Roberts - check out the superb documentary 'Beyond The Mat' to see a tragic man desperate to get his life back. Can't wait for this movie.
Awesome!
looks great, looking forward to greatness.
Looks like a great film and a perfect role for Mr. Rourke, a great actor in the right roles; it's a pity he's tended to get cast in crap. I can't wait.
G's i got teary eyes just watching the trailer.
Wow, looks great.
It is Bruce Springsteen. The song is called "The Wrestler". According to Aronofsky at the screening, Bruce wrote the song on tour and gave it to them for the movie. Bruce and Mickey are good friends and he was excited to see Mickey getting his life back together again.
Ah, found it. It's the original track he wrote for the end credits, 'The Wrestler'. Should be on the next album out 'Working on a Dream' in Januray.
People should have a look at this fabulous Mickey Rourke interview regarding the wrestler: http://www.mcnblogs.com/thehotblog/archives/2008/11/dp30_mickey_rou.html
Last time footage choked me up like this was Deer Hunter. Mickey sure makes greatness look easy.
When I first heard about this film, my hopes were pretty low. It didn't sound like the mindfrack I'd come to love from Aronofsky's past films. To be completely fair, at the time all that IMDB had written was the director and title and a few actor names and some blurb about a wrestler's life.
After watching this trailer I can not wait to see this film.
Ditto, all of the above comments.
Wallace Beery in a wrestling picture, how hard could it be?
That looks... very good. I'd heard good things about the film and abour Rourke's performance, and the trailer makes me think the good word of mouth may be fairly dead on. I'll have to wait for it, alas - this movie, like most smaller flicks, likely won't hit my city for a while...
I really hope that Mickey gets the credit he deserves for this, and that he sticks to finishing his career doing meaningful and poignant character dramas. Brilliant stuff.
