Everything is still at the talking stage and potentially starring Will Smith. *Ducks and runs for cover*

Yeah, someone's remaking a movie...it's the end of the world.

user-pic

Hollywood people are so funny.

user-pic

You know, I could see Will Smith in that part. Someone else has to direct, though. I don't trust Spielberg any further than I can throw him.

user-pic

Well, if you're going to fuck up a remake you might as well go all out.

Maybe Will Smith can write a charming pop-rap song about accidental incest to be the theme.

user-pic

There's no way they leave in the incest. And once thats removed the story is really nothing. This is a joke. It will never happen. No worries...

user-pic

hahahahahahaha :'(

user-pic

NOOOOOOOO. They will rape him, as they did with Indi!!!!! Must stop them! Must report to Kyle!

user-pic

I guess they should better call this remake OH BOY !

user-pic

Oh yeah make Will Smith eat live squid please.

user-pic

Forgotten Films: Writing off Park Chan-wook?

Oi

user-pic

America is not the only country who buys rights for remakes.

user-pic

"I also don’t see how Smith is any less qualified than Nick Cage for the part."

Sorry, were you under the impression that anyone in the world thought Nic Cage in the remake would have been good?

"Infernal Affairs : The Departed? That turned out well."

Really? The best thing to come out of that was Andy Samberg's impression of Mark Wahlberg's 'retahded' Boston accent.

I'm perfectly fine with this. I'll never understand the people that get so upset with this stuff. If you don't think this is a good idea, THEN DON'T WATCH IT. And even if you do and you don't like it, YOU NEVER HAVE TO WATCH IT AGAIN. You always have the original to watch. I kind of agree with rustdog, though. I won't repeat the spoiler, because it ruins the ending, but they probably won't leave it in there.

The Picture of Ji-tae yu from "Old Boy" is exactly what I would do, if I had to watch the numerous Hollywood Korean remakes. It's just not worth it.

user-pic

I am just expressing my profound hatred for this potential scenario.

user-pic

-I'm certainly not watching this film

-The Departed was a dull and boring film and all fronts

-I'm seriously laughing at this instead of being all angry and what-not. Like Alan Moore said about the movie adaptations of his work, the originals are still there. Let hollywood keep their circle-jerking to them.

user-pic

There is absolutely no way the end of the movie survives.

user-pic

This is certainly a film that doesn't need to be remade. The original is there in all its glory to enjoy. If you don't like it because it's a "foreign film" that requires subtitles, well then F**K OFF and continue watching crappy movies.

Regarding "The Departed," while it was very good, IA was better. And what ticks me off is that most people don't even know it was a remake, and the original producers and writers aren't given their just due.

I imagine the same thing would happen were Oldboy remade to critical and popular acclaim. Idiots would be saying "Oh man, Spielberg is a genius with that ending..." to which I would reply, "It's based on a Korean film made 6 years ago" probably to looks of disbelief and/or shock.

Welcome in the world of money.

user-pic

Actually, all the thoughts of Spielberg and co getting credit, Oldboy is a widely and celebrated film, even moreso than Andrew Lau's Infernal Affairs. Which actually negates the whole 'Remakes are pretty harmless, but at least they just might get people to see the original'. Fact is that most people that would love OLDBOY have probably have found it by now.

It just makes a high-budget American remake more redundant than usual.

user-pic

I'm more concerned with the Akira remake. Where they supposedly have changed Tetsuo to Travis, because Tetsuo was too ethnic sounding....

user-pic

I totally forgot about Akira! It's come to the point where I am ashamed to be an American when it comes to film making. Hollywood is completely destroying every good foreign film they touch. It's a disaster!

user-pic

Kurt, you're right on the money about that. Spielberg wouldn't be doing Park any huge favors by remaking his movie. If anything, it would just piss him off him even more. I reminded of a time when Park Chan-Wook was asked to remake Evil Dead, and his response was roughly: "No way, that movie is perfect the way it is, why should I remake it?"
As for the people that say "don't like it, don't watch it", I say to them: have a heart. Seriously, think about all the people involved, especially the director, that worked so hard to make something they love, only to have it dumbed down to put a few more new cars in Will Smith's garage. I mean, is this ever going to end? If other countries can make their own great films without having to remake a current masterpiece, why can;t we?

user-pic

Damn Pusheye you speak the truth on that one!!!!
