Legendary director Jean Rollin unveils his ungodly past !

by Simon Laperriere, November 24, 2008 4:30 AM

Fans of Jean Rollin's work be pleased to learn the filmmaker's memoirs will be available to order throught Amazon France in only five days. Titled MoteurCoupez !: Mémoires d'un cinéaste singulier, the book will feature over 350 photos and will include a previously unpublished script co-written with New Novel goddess Marguerite Duras. No words on an English translation so far, but I'm confident many editors will be interested in adding this title to their catalogue (I'm looking at you FAB Press).

I had the pleasure to spend a few days with Jean Rollin during the 2007 Montreal Fantasia Film Festival where he received a lifetime achievement award. He had many fascinating stories to share, from George Bataille reading his bedtime stories to the many difficulties met during the shooting of La nuit des horloges, his haunting last opus. It is a great joy to know his admirers will be able to discover the singular itinerary of a unique artist whose health and financial issues never stopped him from creating.

Of course, I'm also curious to see if I'm mentionned somewhere in this book !

If this is anything like the audio commentaries and interviews he did for those gorgeous special editions of his films that were released by Encore then it should make for a fascinating read. I'll have to wait for a translated version, however.
