Johnnie To: Busiest Director On The Face Of The Planet

It's a fact: Johnnie To works so much that one day he's simply going to spontaneously combust and disappear into a puff of smoke. At his current rate, however, he's probably got another twenty or thirty films in him before that happens.

This year was actually supposed to be a slow year for To, what with him being in prep for his upcoming big budget, English language remake of Melville's Red Circle. But the idea that To could ever contain himself to just one project at a time when word got out that he had reunited with Mad Detective star Lau Ching-Wan for a film that we now know to be Death of a Hostage - which you can check artwork for here. But apparently two projects at a time isn't enough for To, either. Nope.

According to Kaiju Shakedown Johnnie To is now also hard at work on an as yet untitled - more likely he's just not telling anyone what the title is - project starring Simon Yam, Anthony Wong and French singer Johnny Hallyday. Word is that this project is the one that To and writer Wai Ka Fai were prepping at one time for French star Alain Delon and when Delon eventually turned the project down - though he is appearing in To's Red Circle - they turned to Hallyday as a replacement.

Scary thing? There's also the rumored To project starring Chow Yun Fat (also in Red Circle) so To aint done yet ...

Johnnie To is my favorite living director, period. Thanks for the updates on his projects and keep up the good work. Thanks again!

Yeah, dont forget that he is also said to be doing that Water Margin trilogy with Andrew Lau... wonder how he is going to get these all done. Water Margin should be very interesting considering that To has never(to my knowledge) done a period movie like this. It'll be interesting to see his take on period films. Its bound to be amazing

Not to mention PTU 2.
