This is a first. An Icelandic film getting a special edition DVD release in its home country. We've covered the companion films Children and Parents by Ragnar Bragason and the theater group Vesturport a few times in the past but aside from me I don't think any of the other writers on this site have seen them (please correct me if I'm wrong). The films have been successfully touring the festival route, garnering up crap load of awards and high praise from critics and audiences. The films did not do as well on their home front, box office vise, but that's nothing new really. They got great reviews but Icelandic audiences pretty much stayed away, which is a damn shame because they are some of the best films done over. Now, almost two years ago I said in a review for Parents that the two films were to be released soon on DVD but then Ragnar went and directed a hugely successful TV series and its follow up, which is currently playing on TV over here. So the DVD release sat on the back burner for some time. But not anymore. At the start of December a fat ass 3 disc special edition featuring both films and over two hours of extras will be released, a first for an Icelandic movie who are usually released without much fanfare. Take Jar City for instance, the most popular film in Iceland's history and the DVD only featured a trailer, shameful.
Now as you could see in the title the release is English friendly and Ragnar will try his damnedest to get it in to the hands of interested foreign customers, but more on that later when the info becomes available.
In the mean time you can take a gander at the cover art for this release after the break.
Word.

Anymore info for this release? Mostly like when and where? Just wondering.
It's out in Iceland but I don't know how hard it will be for yall foreigners to get a copy. I will keep you updated.
