AFM: Word On Pen-Ek's Latest

by Todd Brown, November 9, 2008 5:28 PM

Some exciting news from the American Film Market for fans of Last Life In The Universe director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang. While nobody is saying very much in terms of specifics Ratanaruang will reportedly begin shooting his next film, titled Nymph, in December. As has been the case with his recent efforts this will be a joint production of Thailand's Five Star Production and Fortissimo Films and I'm told that while Ratanaruang would likely object to it being termed a horror film Nymoh has a definite supernatural element to it. More as we get it ...

This reminds me, did Ploy ever get to see a DVD release?

Hey, you know what sucks? That we never got to see INVISIBLE WAVES in theaters here States-side.

Have always been tempted to buying it when I see it in Chinatown but have held back for reasons I can't explain if I tried.

Still no English-friendly DVD release for Ploy that I know of. Other media are available, but I'm not certain whether they are the censored Thai edit or the original version.

Yeah the old 'erect nipples' scene haha. Most versions floating around online are of the original cut. Wish someone would throw out a cheap subbed disc already though, loved that one as with pretty much all his stuff.

What about Pen-Ek's short film 'Twelve Twenty'?

Does anyone know anyway to see that one? DVD? Online stream? anything.

I'd appreciate it. I'm a huge Pen-Ek/Chris Doyle fan, and would love to check out the short.

There's an uncut copy of Ploy floating around the Internet with proper English subs. Considering how (ridiculously) hard it is to get your hands on it, it's worth a shot. It's a rather nice film that I, for some odd reason, like to couple with Pang Ho-Cheung's Exodus as if they were two sides of the same story.
