It's sad to see it happen but every year it seems that there are films that we absolutely love around here - films loved by everyone who sees them, really - that, for some reason or another, simply disappear. They do a festival or two, and then poof. They're just gone. And more and more it was looking like Special was going to become one of those films. It was the opening night gala at the inaugural Toronto After Dark festival and played to much love both there and at Fantasia and then it simply disappeared into bad distributor hell. But no more! The film has been rescued from oblivion by the fine folk at Magnet releasing and will be hitting VOD on November 12 before going out on a limited theatrical run November 21st. Is Todd happy about this? Very.
Now, for those who may have forgotten, Special stars perennial supporting actor Michael Rapaport in a rare lead role as a clinically depressed meter maid who signs up for an experimental drug trial. Seems like a good enough idea except the drug convinces him that he is developing super powers and before long he's off trying to combat crime in his homemade costume. I love this film. As in I really, really love it, and we've got the new VOD promo spot and the original trailer for your viewing pleasure in the Twitch Player below the break.

Dam I really hate the way they cut the new trailer, I felt it gave away some type of plot twist that he's not really a superhero. I thought it was suppose to be drama but it looks quite funny.
The original trailer (now added to post above) gave the feel of the film remarkably better then the current Magnet Promos. Maybe I just love the song, Popcorn.
(What is it with Magnet? They've got stellar acquisition tastes but I don't like their marketing dept!).
Hot damn! First I've heard of this film but the trailers are pretty fantastic!
Oh yeah, I wanted to see this.
Michael Rapaport is a badass.
As for the trailers, they left me with an Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind feeling, not sure if that is the direction the movie takes or not.
Finally.
