It's sad to see it happen but every year it seems that there are films that we absolutely love around here - films loved by everyone who sees them, really - that, for some reason or another, simply disappear. They do a festival or two, and then poof. They're just gone. And more and more it was looking like Special was going to become one of those films. It was the opening night gala at the inaugural Toronto After Dark festival and played to much love both there and at Fantasia and then it simply disappeared into bad distributor hell. But no more! The film has been rescued from oblivion by the fine folk at Magnet releasing and will be hitting VOD on November 12 before going out on a limited theatrical run November 21st. Is Todd happy about this? Very.

Now, for those who may have forgotten, Special stars perennial supporting actor Michael Rapaport in a rare lead role as a clinically depressed meter maid who signs up for an experimental drug trial. Seems like a good enough idea except the drug convinces him that he is developing super powers and before long he's off trying to combat crime in his homemade costume. I love this film.
