Two Minutes Of Ho Wi Ding's SUMMER AFTERNOON

by Todd Brown, August 1, 2008 7:59 PM

Though his filmography his still on the short side, Malaysian born, American trained, Taiwan based film maker Ho Wi Ding is already building a name for himself around the world thanks to a string of impressive short films that have been rolling out on the major festival circuit. He first turned heads with the SARS-themed Respire and this past year saw the arrival of Summer Afternoon, a deceptively simple story of three young adults out for a drive on the titular summer's afternoon. There's a love triangle involved, and jilted feelings, but the immediate hook into the film is an impressive two minute single tracking shot, the opening drive shot seamlessly from the exterior of the car with a fluid, floating bit of camera work.

There is no trailer for the film yet but Ho has graciously given us permission to post that opening two minutes so you can check the shot out. You'll find it in the Twitch Player below the break.
