Trailer for New York, I Love You

by Kurt Halfyard, August 24, 2008 10:45 PM

While I find it amusing that Canadian pop artist Feist is featured prominently in a film celebrating the boroughs and atmosphere of New York City, the trailer for New York, I Love You (making its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in a few weeks) is embedded after the Jump.

Like Paris je t'aime before it, the director and actors involved this thing is incredible. The full actor/director list is here. Twitch regulars should be interested that Park Chan-Wook, Faith Akin, Jiang Wen, Shunji Iwai, Yvan Attal, and Andrei Zvyanginstev are directing segments; and a variety of actors are involved, including Shu Qi, Maggie Q, John Hurt, Carla Gugino, Eli Wallach and James Caan

Trivial, but anyone wonder why they didn't name this thing "I Heart NY" ? Seems like a shorter, more iconic and obvious title.

I'm particularly excited to see Jiang Wen's contribution.

Maybe because we who live in the city are tougher critics of films shot here, but this looks terrible. I can only hope that every other scene doesn't evoke already known stereotypes of the city.

Hey Dequinix,

This is an art house movie comprised entirely of shorts - it's going to have enough problems with tying the structure together in a way that makes it accessible to audiences. If it was me bankrolling the project and trying to get it shifted internationally - i'd make damn sure there were a few cliches in there. With so many separate stories i'm sure they'll be something that steps away from the stereotyping - same as the first one - but the punter buying tix to New York I Love You is going to want to see the city they've dreamt about, a myth built on all the stereotypes you so loath.
