True to form, nothing is coming particularly easy on Antichrist, director Lars Von Trier's return to the horror genre. We've known for months that the film would be shooting in Germany, that it is co-scripted by Anders Thomas Jensen - a writer that Von Trier has been openly critical of in the past - and that it will not in any way, shape or form be related to the Dogme movement that Von Trier co-founded. What we didn't know was the cast. Casting was initially supposed to be announced all the way back in May during Cannes but repeated visits to the Danish office there yielded only comments that "We don't know anything yet either, you haven't missed anything." If Von Trier had his cast then, he just wasn't saying. Well, he's got it now, and playing the leads in the film revolving around a couple dealing with the death of their child will be Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg, both of whom I think are rather good choices. Production begins in the next couple weeks.

The Element of Crime and Dafoe (Bobby Peru, anyone?) freaked me out so I'm sold already.
Anders Thomas Jensen: ugh
Anders Thomas Jensen writing horror: double ugh
Well I guess my expectations can only go up from here
Zombiwolf: if you haven't seen it you should check out Von Trier's original Danish version of The Kingdom ...
