Legendary Gore-Fu Flick THE STORY OF RICKY (RIKI-OH) Remastered!

by Todd Brown, July 22, 2008 2:09 AM

Okay cult film fans, here's one for you. The Story of Ricky is a truly legendary film, one that fuses martial arts with buckets of blood and gore, including - if memory serves - a man being choked to death with his own intestines. It is absolutely insane stuff, a film that failed miserably upon its initial release in Hong Kong - effectively killing star Fan Siu-Wong's career, he's only just making a comeback now - but going on to become one of the most sought after cult films ever to come out of Hong Kong. And now it's getting the remaster and rerelease treament in its native land, giving fans the chance to own the film looking better than it ever has before. Yum. You can check a trailer out below the break.

But the dubbed version was part of the "charm" of the flick! After all, who could come up with lines like "Alright! You gotta a lotta guts, Oscar!" after seeing someone disemboweling himself???

Yeah, my buddy Bill would probably agree with you.

I don't necessarily disagree....perhaps there is an English dub track? Oh. There isn't.

Well...um....I bought it. So yeah.

Well I have the Hong Kong Legends disc of this, and I know it is in the pipeline for Dragon Dynasty, so I think I'll wait for the DD disc...

Ditto: preorder as well....

There's a hilariously butchered version of this? I thought the US disc was a port of the Megastar disc from Hong Kong? Were either of them cut?

NEver seen it but that looks hilarious

Nothing can beat this film. But without the shoddy English dub? I don't know, it just seems wrong. This is probably the only film that the English dub actually makes it better?

That UK HKLegends disc was just fine and included both the English dub and Cantonese tracks.

I remember showing this movie to some friends of mine during a boozy night a long time ago (back in the age of video, when the only way to get hold of such movies was at movie fairs). There's a scene at the beginning that takes place in the showers, where one of the toughs is bullying an inmate who'd built a toy wooden train. After smashing the toy on the floor, he uses a wood-plane to sheer off the top of the poor guys's nose (everyone's thinking, ouch that's a bit rough). Then Ricky comes in and trips the bully so he lands face first on the nails sticking up out of the broken toy. Everyone was pissing themselves laughing. I hadn't intended to show the whole flick, only that scene, but everyone insisted on watching it. Of course, even more outrageous stuff was to follow...

A truly inspired slice of insanity, which also features Yukari Oshima as a transvestite!

LOVE this movie... it's a shame it didn't meet success upon its original release as the manga it's based on has even more mayhem to offer. I believe the manga's first arc was a 12 book run...at least that's what I have. The film is only 2 books and an additional chapter of Masahiko Takajo and Tetsuya Sauwatari's run. Gotta love how much Fan Siu-Wong resembles the illustrated character. He's great in _stone-age warriors_, too.

Old news or not, oh man I need to find this DVD; is it a Chinese or Japanese release?
