Johnny To is a special Master of Cinema

Ain't That The Truth!
Here at Twitch we don't hide our love for Hong Kong director extraordinaire Johnny To. During the MegaToM in december, he was the most often mentioned director in our ten lists of "favorite filmmakers".

And thankfully, the good people behind the "Eureka: Masters of Cinema" DVD-series agree with us.
I call them good people because from the very start they have turned their brand into something to keep track of, a European version of "Criterion" so to speak. They've done so by releasing excellent DVD-versions of classic films, focussing on authenticity, good audio and video, decent extras and accompanied by booklets which are interesting for a change.

Now often, classic also means "not new".
Up until now the most recent film Eureka released in their "MoC" series was Bruno Dumont's "La Vie de Jesus" from 1997.

But as can be spotted in Geert Jan's DVD release calendar, this is about to change: in October Eureka will release Johnny To's "Mad Detective" on DVD. Which is good news in itself, but what makes this one even more special is that Eureka will also release this title in the BluRay format, a first for them!

Damn, first BluRay Criterions and now BluRay Masters of Cinema?
Even for a "late adopter" as me, the time to upgrade comes closer and closer...

old hat, anyways, I applaud MOC for that choice.
being a "not-wanting-to-change" I think this movie will be my first blue ray purchase.

Well, old hat or not, it was news to me.

I realised afterwards from the comments on Amazon that they had a page up for it for quite some weeks already, yet Eureka keeps completely silent about it so I thought it warranted a shout-out.
