Go Behind The Scenes of Alexandre Aja's MIRRORS

by Todd Brown, June 2, 2008 9:47 PM

I feel like I should say right up front that I think Haute Tension director Alexandre Aja has been slumming it with these sequel and remake projects that he's been involved with and is in serious need of another original project - and soon - if he's going to maintain his identity, and that if he must insist on remaking films the middling Korean picture Mirrors is an odd choice as the original was nothing spectacular. But, that said, a reel of behind the scenes footage from the film - starring Kiefer Sutherland as a down-on-his-luck cop forced to take a job as a security guard in a burned out department store - has appeared online and you have to admire the scale and scope of what Aja is doing. Sutherland's saying all the right things in the interview - as he should, it's an EPK reel - but the real star of the thing is the massive set that the action plays out on, an incredibly detailed world for Aja to play out his dark fantasy on.

You can find the reel in the Twitch Player below the break.

Well I definitely thought one of the cuts of The Hills Have Eyes was amazing, shame this version didn't wind up being released theatrical or on the home video version.

I didn't care for the theatrical cut of the film or the home video uncut cut of the film. Not sure what happened, but the changes made here didn't work for me.

I'm probably looking more forward to his next project, Piranha 3-D which he directs and oddly enough wrote the script with Josh Stolberg.

Haute Tension was an awful film, so all these shitty remakes fit quite well for Aja's standards.

This is really not a remake anymore. Aja has stated that so much has been rewritten and changed that it really doesn't resemble the korean original anymore.
