First Details on Kiwi Creature Feature AMATU!

by Todd Brown, June 19, 2008 4:44 PM

It's early days yet but start keeping an eye out for Amatu, a New Zealand creature feature from directors Marc and Paul Swadel and the production company behind extreme comedy The Devil Dared Me To. Just accepted into the NAFF - the co-production market hosted by Korean festival PiFan - the film is a creature feature that fuses New Zealand legend with Japanese influences. Here's an excerpt from the synopsis at the NAFF site:

On the second day of they’re trek bump into Raymond, an ex-cop who has taken his "infected" son deep into the Amatu Ranges in an attempt to keep his “problem” under wraps. This "problem" causes his son Leo to become a creature that has to feed on human flesh to survive. This nocturnal abomination infects those who are bitten with the same cursed blood. Raymond is too weak to kill his son and end the curse, so he must hunt and destroy the people Leo has infected.

Concept, production art and the team behind this one are all very strong, expect good things ...

Hmmmm...

I wish all the best to my Kiwi brothers but NZ film does not have the best track record.

That said, I'm loving the Japanese element and hopefully that with some good characters should elevate this...hopefully.
