I've been a little bit slow posting on this one thanks to being away from home but while in Cannes I happened to have a chance encounter with Italian director Ruggero Deodato. Who? The director of Cannibal Holocaust, one of the most notorious cult films ever made - so shocking that it has been banned from seventeen countries around the world. Heck, it's so shocking that the director was brought up on charges in Italy when it was released, the local authorities believing (wrongly) that the film included actual snuff footage. This is a film that has earned it's reputation rather than manufacturing it with PR spin.

And now Deodato is back and treading familiar ground. The film is Cannibals, it is in development now and it moves the gruesome flesh eating of the original out of the jungle and into a fully urban setting, Deodato wanting to demonstrate that civilization is every bit as evil as the wild ... no real plot details yet but you can check a larger version of the poster at the link below.
