For much of my recent trip to Cannes the brand new promo for Ryoo Seung-Wan's Dachimawa Lee was far and away the best thing I saw on screens there. It got bumped down a couple notches by the genius that is JCVD and the extreme ass-whupping of the new Ong Bak 2 promo but what I had been viewing as a simple filler project from the director while he put together finance for his much larger martial arts zombie epic Yacha has definitely jumped way up to the top of my anticipated films list. Oh, yes, this thing looks like all kinds of fun. A little bit western, a little bit spy thriller, a little bit martial arts action, and a good bit of comedy this thing has more visual ingenuity packed into a single frame than some films manage through their entire run time. Yeah, I'm excited.
