First Art For Thai Heist-Drama NAK PROK!

by Todd Brown, May 27, 2008 1:08 AM

At the just completed Marche Du Film in Cannes the good people at Sahamongkol Film were busy closing sales on the just completed Queens of LAngkasuka (yes, it's gone back to the original title), Chocolate, Som Tum and the long in production Ong Bak 2 but they also had a few upcoming projects displayed prominently, most notably upcoming action drama Nak Prok.

A philosophically minded action film Nak Prok tells the story of a gang of thieves who bury their loot by a temple while on the run from police. Upon their return they discover that a monastery has been built over their hiding place and their only option to recover their stolen cash is to join the temple as novice monks and wait for a chance to dig up their prize. Yes, this premise has been played for comic effect a few times in the past but this is taking the material in a much darker direction. Keep an eye on this one, it looks promising ...

I thought the original title for Nonzee's film was Queens of Pattani, and they changed it to Queens of Langkasuka to tone down the connections to violence-wracked southern Thailand. Then there was the confusion over whether it was Queen or Queens. Glad they finally settled that.

Hope that turns out to be good.
