Absurda "Super-Team": Lynch, Herzog, Jodorowsky

Lynch_pic.jpgStrange things are afoot in the Lynch camp. While that statement is a rather obvious one, it may interest folks to know the specifics. Item #1 would be that his Absurda production company has been moving along Alejandro Jodorowsky’s latest effort, King Shot - dubbed a "metaphysical spaghetti gangster film." The Hollywood Reporter out of Cannes reports that here is your principle cast: Nick Nolte, Asia Argento, Marilyn Manson and Udo Kier. Tasty! In one of those strange circles, Jodorowsky did loads of pre-production on Dune in the 1970s before the project was eventually given to Lynch in the early eighties; thus it is fitting that Lynch is enabling a new Jodorowsky film a few decades on.

Item #2 is that Werner Herzog (It is indeed unusual Herzog week) is collaborating with David Lynch on a low-budget digital video (a la Inland Empire) feature, My Son, My Son. Who out there is not delighted to see a Lynch/Herzog collaboration? Cineastes in certain circles just had their heads explode with the possibilities here. Don't hold your breath too much though, this one is not set to shoot until next March.

[My Son, My Son is] based on the true story of a San Diego man who acts out a Sophocles play in his mind and kills his mother with a sword. The low-budget feature will flash back and forth from the murder scene to the disturbed man's story.

It's about time somebody put real $$$ on a Jodorowsky project, he's probably the most underrated filmmaker in the world, i mean if people like Maddin, Geenaway, Herzog can make more then 5 movies in a decade, then Jodorowsky deserves to make this one in a big way!!!

Where was Lynch when Jodorowsky wanned to do the "The Sons Of El Topo"??? Think about it, El Topo 2 is now a possibility!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lynch rules (even more)!!

isn't Jodorowsky 80? don't get me wrong, i'm pumped - i'm just keeping expectations LOW.

He seemed pretty hale when he was in town two years ago for a special screening of Santa Sangre, and did a lengthy Q&A;before and after the film -- but yea, he is 79.

80? Your petty earth years do not apply to Alejandro Jodorowsky.
