I recently came across one tasty new short from Russian director Egor Abramenko. Titled The Collector it's an ominous little piece of work shot with a formal precision that reminds me of nobody so much as Korean auteur Park Chan-Wook in shooting style and camera work. Toronto audiences will get the chance to see this on the big screen sometime soon - details will come once I get the okay - but to give you a taste before then, Abramenko has just passed along a trailer for the piece. Very nice. You'll find it below the break in the Twitch Player.

Music is awful
why?
Looks pretty good but, yeah, the music is pretty bad.
The guitar work sounds like someone who's just learning to play as it sounds like mis hit strings and chords. The guitar sections would have sounded better with some sort of electronic/industrial ambience.
The music is meant to reflect the mental state of the lead character ... it may not be pretty but it works beautifully within the context of the film ...
Admittedly, that sheds new light on the score but you can still demonstrate an imbalanced psyche with a GOOD melody.
Visually I can't really find fault.
Is this an adaptation of John Fowles' novel The Collector?
yes.
