Well, well. It looks like Mamoru Oshii wasn't kidding when he said he intended to leave his normal philosophical concerns behind and do something a bit more mainstream with Sky Crawlers. The voice cast for the film has just been announced and not only is it loaded with star power, it's star power that crosses international lines. Who's in there? Rinko Kikuchi (Babel), Ryo Kase (Letters From Iwo Jima), and Chiaki Kuriyama (Battle Royale, Kill Bill). Yes, I know that all of these people have extensive resumes outside of Hollywood but the point is that there is an obvious eye to international marketability here. And that's okay with me since all of these people are among the very best actors of their generation within Japan.
