KILLER TOMATOES to ATTACK Again!

by Todd Brown, March 12, 2008 7:28 AM

News of this is whipping all over the internet like wildfire right now and my thanks go to the very persistent Avery for bringing it to my attention. The Killer Tomatoes - arguably the most ridiculous villains ever captured on screen - are coming back. Ask a Ninja creators Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine have signed on to remake the cult hit that persists largely because of just how ridiculous it is.

Now this sounds like a chance for making some special, let's see how they do it.

Not trying to pick on you Chevalier but this is a handy example of something I've always found baffling.

On the Killer Tomatoes thread, you say the remake is "a chance for making some special" but on the Lady Vengeance thread it's "Jebus fucking crist, hollywood is doing it again. Go and make new stuff instead of rehashing movies from other place/times and so on, you lazy fucks"

Seriously, what the hell? Is it only remaking Asian films that you find offensive, and if so, why?

Basic reality of the film industry in North America: if it's subtitled the vast majority of people will not only not watch it, they'll never even hear of it. If nothing else the remakes - even the bad ones - draw more attention to the originals, giving the original film makers deserved attention. I don't get the hatred, and I especially don't get how people can talk out of both sides of their mouth on this with the lines seemingly drawn purely on race lines ...

Nope, i find offensive that they remake films that don't need a remake at all, be from asia or american films from other times that are perfectly fine the way they were made. Be Hollywood or some other country doing the remake. "Tomatoes.." is a movie that suits fine for a spoof/satire among other things, Lady Vengeance is quite a serious affair that developes it's story in many way thanks to the director, to the cast, the soundtrack among other things.

And the "remakes make people try the original" is hardly a safe thing, it can actually make people not want to watch the original at all. Or many just don't care about foreign cinema, which is fine, but why over-flowing your countrie's film industry with rehashed stuff instead of trying to do something new?

Hoping that i made my posture clear in this issue,

You know a lot of times, if the remake sucks,it can make people appreciate the original even more. Also, remakes can draw more attention to the originals when they've been ignored and neglected for some time. They can inspire a whole new generation ,of soon to be fans,to look the originals up and give them a chance.I think that in most cases, even if they are bad,it only benefits the originals. They get new special editions,re-releases,etc..
