Hit Korean Comedy LE GRAND CHEF Coming To DVD!

One of the big hits of the year, Korean cooking comedy Le Grand Chef is about to make its way to DVD. Don't think you're a fan of food movies? This may change your mind. It's the story of a pair of chefs engaged in a competitive cook off - Iron Chef style - to win the fabled cooking knives of a shamed royal chef from centuries before: knives used by the chef to cut off his own arms in shame when a particular dish failed. Most importantly, this one is based on a graphic novel by the author of Tazza: War of Flowers, the gambling picture that was last year's biggest Korean hit, and the origins clearly come through in the style of the thing.

The film gets released in two forms March 14th. There's the standard edition, which is nice and all, but then there's the limited edition version. Korea goes all out packaging the films they really like and this one sets the bar high. What have they done? They've bundled the whole thing inside a bamboo steamer. Heh. You can check the English subtitled teaser for the film embedded in the TWtich Player below the break.

I wouldn't really call this a "comedy". It's actually quite far from ever being a comedy. Mostly one of those "GO KOREA!!!!" films with a dash of "screw the evil Japanese" that really leaves a lot to be desired. An average run-of-the-mill offering.

As for the LE DVD, it sold out within a day at most e-tailers.
