THE TALKIES—George Romero and THE NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

by Michael Guillen, February 8, 2008 5:45 AM

A congratulatory shout-out to my friend Tim Massett who runs the San Marco Theatre in Jacksonville, Florida. As reported earlier, Tim's series "The Talkies" is furthering a new art form of live commentary on classic films; his most recent (and successful) event being George Romero talking on The Night of the Living Dead.

You can catch a 15-second photoclip of the Romero event, and keep abreast of the series, at Tim's humble blog Notes From A No Name. Next up: Jonathan Cameron Mitchell on Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Cross-published on The Evening Class.

That is cool. Not excatly the same, but on Feb 21st here in Dallas, the AFI and a local Horror convention, Texas Frightmare Weekend, are hosting a 40th anniversary screening of NOTLD featuring the following:

"Featuring an appearance and Q&A;after the screening with the legendary director and cast members including Marilyn Eastman, Bill Hinzman, George Kosana, Judith O’Dea, Kyra Schon, Russ Streiner, and John Russo, the screening will utilize rare prints of the film for the special event.

Also appearing at the screening will be horror and science fiction film legends and standouts: Malcolm McDowell, Dee Wallace Stone, Tom Savini, Ed Neal, Danielle Harris, Scout Taylor Compton, Kristina Klebe, Courtney Gains, Kelli Maroney, and Ken Foree. "

That is quite a guest list and I am excited!
