I never thought I would see the day when a Star Wars film wasn't preceded by a Fox logo but apparently that day is coming. Word came out yesterday that LucasFilm would be issuing it's CG Animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, through Warner Bros. Pictures and Turner Broadcasting. This marks the first time that another studio will be the supporting distributor of Stars Wars content since the first film was released in 1977. Lucasfilm said Warner Bros.' cable and theatrical resources made it an especially good fit for the project. "We're trying to do something unprecedented -- marrying TV series and theatrical release," a rep said. Under this deal, Warner will release the film and TV skein on DVD.
Here is what they plan to do. They plan to release the film in August; no set dates for international releases yet. Then, in the Fall they will start up the series. The "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" movie is expected to run around 100 minutes and pick up between episode II and III. Anakin Skywalker is not yet Darth Vader. The story will then continue in 30-minute smallscreen installments... Lucasfilm Animation has already produced more than 30 episodes in the TV skein, with production continuing in Singapore and Taiwan. On Tuesday, Lucasfilm is launching an online Web docu[mentary] about the project at Starwars.com.
So in late July or early August start looking for those lineups I guess. More Star Wars is on the way!

This is some great news! No better way to start off the day.
I prefer the look of Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars.
Hmm, yeah. Just watched that trailer again, and while I like that they took their main visual cues from Tartakovsky's classic series, I wish they'd kept the frenetic pace and massive scale of the action scenes. It was that that really made Clone Wars so enjoyable and refreshing, after all.
We shall see. I wonder how it will fare at the cinema.
