Rights for 'Hamlet 2' come into Focus at Sundance

The darling of film sales at Sundance on Tuesday turned out to be Hamlet 2, selling world rights to Focus Features for a reported $10 million. Competition was fierce apparently; TWC, Fox Searchlight, Lionsgate and Paramount Vantage all interested in the pic as well.

Slated as a teen comedy Hamlet 2 stars Steve Coogan as an overly dramatic drama teacher who attempts to salvage his high-school theater department by staging a controversial sequel to Shakespeare's play.

We love Steve Coogan around these parts. His character Alan Partridge in legendary in his native England and I liked his recent series Saxondale. He just cannot seem to break it big here in North America, which is a shame because he is an enormous comedic talent. Here's hoping Hamlet 2 will help, at the risk of doing so in a teen comedy.
