One for you here via Grady Hendrix over at Kaiju Shakedown who brings word about new Hong Kong gangster drama Run Papa Run. Now, when you hear gangster-drama you generally think action film but this goes somewhere a little bit differently. Helmed by Sylvia Chang - who Hendrix declares one of the world's truly great female film makers - and produced by Jackie Chan, the film stars Louis Koo as a gangster trying to exit the criminal life and raise his daughter. There is an english subtitled trailer available and while it lays the shmaltz on pretty thick - as is the norm for Asian melodrama - Koo looks quite good and the use of animation to capture his inner life is pretty stunning. Very nice.
