Lee Byung Hun One Ups Chow Yun Fat In The Casting Slum Sweepstakes ...

by Todd Brown, December 20, 2007 11:45 PM

Okay, so Chow Yun Fat - at one point the biggest, most successful movie star in the entire world, just signed on to play a role in the upcoming Dragonball Z movie. Kind of an icky decision, frankly, but one at least tempered a little bit by the fact that Stephen Chow - still the biggest thing going in Hong Kong and China - is producing. No such love here ...

Korean megastar Lee Byung Hun of JSA and A Bittersweet Life fame has reportedly just signed on to play Storm Shadow in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie directed by Stephen Somers. Yes, I'd be more than willing to bet that this one will perform better than the Dragonball film which sort of makes it a better decision, but still ... icky ...

Oh, well. At least we get to see him in an American film, however bad it may or may not be. He's also got THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE WEIRD coming up. And don't forget that Jet Li's first U.S. flick was LETHAL WEAPON 4, which was instantly forgettable. In fact, I already forget what movie title I just wrote (see what I did there?).

Lethal Weapon 4 is pretty funny to go back and watch now! :)

I do like the character of Storm Shadow, but it would seem an odd choice to break out in Hollywood with a role where his very distinguishing face is covered up most of the time. Cool character to play though and he certainly does seem like one able to convey a lot with his eyes and physicality!

Can't wait to see THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE WEIRD and slightly curious to see him in I COME WITH THE RAIN.

Jebus, is he too going to dive into shitty american film after shitty film like all his asian acting partners have done so far? I was thinking he knew better about picking roles.

I'll focus on "The good..." and pretend i didn't even read this news at all.
