First Proper Trailer For Hideo Nakata's DEATH NOTE Spin Off, L

The original Death Note films were a huge success in their native Japan - and have sold well around the world - so much so that the producers went out and got themselves a legitimate a-list director for the inevitable spin off. Ringu director Hideo Nakata, freshly returned to his home country where he shot the well received Kaidan, is at the wheel for this one and while two previous teasers have been released none included anything actually shot by Nakata, both being nothing more than announcement reels letting people know the new film was coming. Can't watch it myself where I am at the moment (grr to no Flash player and no admin priviledges) but the new trailer for the film has just arrived and it gives the first true look at what Nakata has been up to.

This was supposed to be a prequel of sorts, right? Yet I spot a Death Note near the end of the trailer. I can understand a mention of the Death Notes at the start for reference sake, but at the end?

The rest of the trailer seems to point towards a story in which L needs to solve a series of murders committed through a biological agent...

This comment would be ever so much more coherent if only I could speak Japanese!

Ardvark: It's not a prequel. It actually takes place after the case with Light.

Apparently this one actually takes place in the last 23 days of L's life, after the second movie.
They went and got a major, bestselling novelist to come up with the story and write the novelization, but said author refused to attach their name to the project (because they wanted it to be accepted as Death Note rather than their work) and are being referred to only as M.
So I assume it's Miyabe Miyuki...
